Welcome back rolling aficionados! For this month’s Rolling Round Up, I’m delighted to share some of my absolute favourite strains currently in my rotation. Some of them are new discoveries and others have been my go-to picks for a long while. Regardless of how long I’ve been getting to know them, all three have exactly the fun and refreshing profiles you need to welcome in the warm weather. If you’re on the hunt for your new favourite summer smoke, read on!
Part 3 of the Rolling Round Up!
Indica – Florida Citrus Kush by Moodring
I picked this strain up on a whim a while back and found myself profoundly pleasantly surprised! Florida Citrus Kush by Moodring is a delightfully kushy indica strain, descended from Chemdawg, South Florida OG, and Lemon Thai. It has an unexpected burst of citrus that gives it a fresh, invigorating quality that had me hooked from the start. The limonene really shines in this strain, as it gives it a sociability that most indica strains tend to dampen. However it doesn’t veer too far into energetic territory, as its floral and kush profile keeps it grounded and relaxed.
This strain is absolutely perfect for late-night summer socializing; it keeps conversation thrilling and flowing, but it’s relaxing enough that you won’t be up for hours. This makes it ideal for evening barbecues and beachfront campfires. After smoking, I desperately craved the warm crackle of a fire, the ocean breeze, and some good conversation.
This strain isn’t called Florida Citrus Kush for nothing: it’s practically built for the beach! If you’re looking for a relaxing but adventurous indica strain (and don’t mind getting a little ash on your beach towel), this is the summer strain for you!
Try it if you like: Citrus-y strains, non-sleepy indicas, social strains.
Good for: A movie night with friends, lounging around a campfire, going to the beach.
Sativa – Rally (Island Sweet Skunk) by Fleurish
Early in my smoking career, I had a pretty serious aversion to sativas. After some poor experiences, I was convinced that sativa strains were simply too anxious for me to enjoy. Rally (Island Sweet Skunk) by Fleurish is the first strain that convinced me otherwise, and I haven’t looked back since.
Rally is a beautifully crafted sativa strain descended from Sweet Pink Grapefruit and Big Skunk #1, with a delicious aroma of citrus and hops. This strain always leaves me feeling absolutely supercharged, with a profound boost of energy. However despite its above-average potency, I never found it so intense that it was unpleasant.
The alpha-pinene and beta-myrcene of this strain balance each other out beautifully, to produce a simultaneously active and grounding experience. This is perhaps the least anxious sativa I’ve tried to date, making it an ideal pick for smokers who are new to the world of sativas. An ideal midday “pick-me-up” strain for the smoker in need of a boost.
Personally, my apartment is never cleaner than after I’ve smoked this beauty. It’s also a great pick for anyone who likes to smoke something energizing before a workout. If you need a little motivation to get through your busy day, I cannot recommend Rally enough.
Try it if you like: Skunky strains, gentle non-anxious sativas, energetic strains.
Good for: Deep cleaning your apartment, going for a jog, cooking something elaborate.
Available in: Flower and pre-roll.
Hybrid – Billy’s Pheno by Carmel
Carmel is hands-down the producer most featured here at Rolling Round Up, and for a good reason; time and time again, they hit it out of the park! Carmel’s newest drop is Billy’s Pheno, an absolutely genius cross of fan favorite Animal Face and timeless Girl Scout Cookies. This hybrid has an astoundingly sweet and gassy profile, with an impressive terpene percentage to match (my own batch came to about 4% terps). This strain is profoundly cheerful: I was in an amazingly comfy, giggly mood for hours after smoking a bowl of it. The Girl Scout Cookies does a fantastic job of amplifying Animal Face’s euphoric effects, while mellowing out its energy. This is an indulgent, must-try strain for fans of cookie strains.
This luxuriously cozy strain is without a doubt for the hedonistic at heart. After smoking I was simultaneously struck by a profound feeling of comfort and hunger; within 15 minutes, I was giggling in my pajamas and enjoying the most delicious grilled cheese sandwich of my life. This strain is perfect for someone who wants to treat themselves after a long week, especially if some fancy snacks are involved. This is the penultimate “self-care day” strain, and has quickly become my new favourite in my rotation.
Try it if you like: Craft-quality bud, happy strains, getting serious munchies.
Good for: Indulging in a charcuterie board, laughing your head off, curling up on the couch.
Main terpenes: Caryophyllene, Myrcene, Farnesene.
Available in: Flower and Pre Roll
